Impedance / Tympanometry / Immittance
Impedance audiometry, also known as tympanometry or immittance testing, is a key diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the function of the middle ear. This test measures how well the eardrum responds to changes in air pressure, helping to identify conditions such as fluid in the middle ear, ear infections, eardrum perforation, or stiffness in the ossicles (middle ear bones).
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and does not require active participation, making it suitable for both adults and children. A small probe is placed in the ear canal, and pressure variations are introduced to assess eardrum movement. The results are displayed in the form of a tympanogram, which provides valuable insights into middle ear health. This test plays a crucial role in diagnosing hearing issues accurately and guiding further medical or audiological treatment for effective ear care.
