VEMP (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential)
VEMP is a specialized test used to assess the function of the vestibular system, particularly the parts of the inner ear responsible for balance. It measures muscle responses triggered by sound stimulation, helping evaluate the integrity of specific vestibular pathways. This test is commonly used in patients experiencing dizziness, vertigo, or balance disorders.
During the procedure, electrodes are placed on the neck or around the eyes to record muscle responses while sound stimuli are delivered through earphones. The test is safe, non-invasive, and provides valuable information about inner ear and nerve function. VEMP plays an important role in diagnosing vestibular disorders such as superior canal dehiscence and other balance-related conditions. The results help guide effective management and treatment plans for patients with balance issues.
