LLR (Late Latency Response)

LLR, or Late Latency Response, is an electrophysiological test that measures the brain’s higher-level processing of sound. Unlike ABR, which focuses on early auditory pathways, LLR evaluates cortical responses, providing insight into how the brain interprets auditory information. This test is particularly useful in assessing auditory processing abilities and detecting neurological or central auditory disorders.

Electrodes are placed on the scalp to record brain activity in response to sound stimuli. The test requires the patient to be awake and attentive, as it reflects conscious auditory perception. LLR is often used in complex cases where standard hearing tests do not fully explain a patient’s difficulties in understanding speech. It provides valuable information for diagnosing auditory processing disorders and guiding appropriate rehabilitation strategies.
