Eustachian Tube Function Test (ETF)

The Eustachian Tube Function (ETF) test is used to assess how well the Eustachian tube is functioning in regulating air pressure within the middle ear. The Eustachian tube connects the middle ear to the back of the nose and plays a vital role in maintaining equal air pressure on both sides of the eardrum.

When this tube does not function properly, it can lead to symptoms such as ear fullness, discomfort, hearing difficulty, or frequent ear infections. During the test, changes in middle ear pressure are measured while the patient performs specific actions like swallowing or blowing gently. The results help determine whether the tube is opening and closing effectively. This evaluation is especially useful for individuals experiencing chronic ear problems or pressure-related discomfort, and it helps guide appropriate treatment or medical referral.
